All About The Pioneer Valley Region
The Pioneer Valley Region, encompassing Hampden and Hampshire Counties in western Massachusetts, is anchored by Springfield, the state’s third-largest city and its cultural and economic hub. Holyoke, the nation’s first planned industrial city, is also part of the region.
Major companies with headquarters or plants here include Hasbro, Solutia, MassMutual, Smith & Wesson, and Callaway Golf. Known as the “Crossroads of New England,” the region sits at the junction of the Massachusetts Turnpike and I-91, with Bradley International Airport just a 30-minute drive from Springfield.
Key attractions include the Basketball Hall of Fame, Volleyball Hall of Fame, Mt. Tom State Park, the Eastern States Exposition—the largest agricultural fair in New England—and the charming college towns of Northampton and Amherst.
